eBolovanje (eSick Leave): A Revolution in Administration in Serbia Starting March 2025
eBolovanje
In line with the announcement from the Ministry of Health, Serbia will introduce the electronic sick leave system starting in March 2025. This innovative administrative approach will significantly simplify the process of initiating and monitoring sick leave for employees, employers, and healthcare institutions.
With the new system, employees who are temporarily unable to work will no longer need to personally deliver sick leave certificates to their employers. Instead, healthcare institutions will directly input sick leave data into an electronic system, including the estimated duration. The system will then automatically generate and forward the certificate to the employer, eliminating the need for physical document exchange.
Advantages for Employers and Employees
This system offers numerous benefits:
- For employees: It removes the stress of timely certificate delivery, allowing employees to focus on recovery.
- For employers: Faster access to information about the start and duration of sick leave enables more efficient workforce planning and reduces the risk of delays in document submission.
Protection of Employee Privacy
It is important to note that employers will not have access to employees’ medical documentation. They will only see basic information, such as the start date and duration of the sick leave. If the sick leave is extended, the system will automatically notify the employer of the updated status.
Streamlined Administrative Processes
The implementation of electronic sick leave simplifies and speeds up administrative processes, contributing to improved communication and cooperation between all involved parties.
This new system marks a significant step forward in the modernization and digitalization of healthcare and labor procedures in Serbia, bringing benefits to both employees and employers alike.
